Laurie Gillis

Real Estate Agent

Laurie has always been interested in homes and design and her family spent many Sundays looking at open houses in Richmond, BC where she grew up. She planned to be a veterinarian, then an interior designer and artist. She received a scholarship to Emily Carr College of Art and Design but after a semester there, wasn’t sure how to turn that into a viable career.

While studying at SFU (for 9 years) and obtaining her Real Estate Licence, she worked in the sales offices of several real estate development companies and project marketers. She never expected to go into resale real estate, but soon became one of the better known REALTORS® in Vancouver. In 2000 she met Robin Vrba, an agent with Remax Real Estate services. They really clicked and Laurie admired her knowledge, integrity and commitment to her clients. She joined Robin, helping to implement some sales and management systems and, in the next year, her business doubled. In 2008, they decided to merge their team with Sayo, one of the most highly reputed REALTORS® in Vancouver. She worked in the office beside them and many of Sayo’s clients were selling their condos and buying the character homes they had listed. Sayo and her team had the same core values and commitment to client care – real estate advice for life – not just a single sale. It was an excellent decision.

Laurie loves seeing people’s homes, offering advice for renovations and helping to figure out what will work best for them – helping them figure out what type of home they could move to or whether they can make their existing home work better.

She now lives in beautiful Steveston with husband, David, and 2 kids, Madeline and Zachary. They share their home with a rescued Irish Setter named Keely, a fish named Sushi, and they enjoy hosting international students.

When she’s not working, Laurie is usually found cheering her kids on at soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, judo, volleyball or football. She loves reading, painting, playing games, gardening and fixing things. She created an award-winning garden at their old house, which came third place in the Richmond Garden and Design competition.
