"To be the leading real estate team in Vancouver; always exceeding our clients' expectations and enhancing our experience through active community involvement and contribution."
- Team Nickerson
Sayo's beginnings are out East in the small French-Canadian town of Plantagenet located about an hour outside of Ottawa, Ontario. Sayo is a Japanese name (her mother is Japanese) that literally means 'small night' or 'twilight'. She grew up on a 400 acre sheep farm of sorts but moved to Ottawa for high school, and then moved to Montreal for four years to attend McGill University where she graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor in Arts.
Apart from regularly visiting West Coast family members, Sayo's first experience living in BC was when she moved to Whistler for the summers during university. During those summers she worked as a chamber maid, a golf cart attendant, and electrician's helper, and even as a construction worker doing framing! After university she spent a full year in Whistler working and skiing before heading off with her best friend to spend a year abroad in the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, New Zealand and finally Australia. After that it was off to Japan for almost 2 years where she taught English in Kyoto and met her future husband JD whom she married in 2005.
After a final backpacking trip to Europe and Turkey, Sayo decided to make Vancouver her permanent home in 2000 and has never looked back. She worked at Vancouver's famous Mushroom Studios for a year and then made the switch to real estate, joined ReMax in 2001 and has been growing her business ever since.
Outside of work, her hobbies include dancing flamenco and salsa, practising yoga, singing jazz, playing piano and squash, wakeboarding at 7am in English Bay (only in summertime!), renovating her house, investing in real estate, personal growth, and supporting environmental causes.
Having the time to pursue her non-work passions has always been very important to Sayo and has allowed her to keep the healthy mindset that makes her a great Realtor to her clients. Sayo's goal is to help her clients become wealthy through real estate investing and helping them to make sound real estate decisions.
